Wild Walley visits on the “45066” show
Mike Schneider, also known for 19 years as Wild Walley the morning host of the “Rebel” country music radio station and I met in his home studio last week for an interview for our local “45066”TV show. The “Rebel” was sold in February to the University ofNorthern Kentucky. All employees received ten days notice to get their stuff together for departure. Vacation pay for 2011 won’t happen and goodbye. That was it, no farewell party, no words of wisdom, no thank you for the last two decades, it was over. Mike started at the “Rebel” at age 31 and now at age 50 was out of work. A single father raising 4 teenage boys here in Springboro, he’s in the process of putting together his own business doing promotions, public relations, voice overs and narration for businesses in the Dayton/Cincinnati market. They didn’t call him Wild Walley for being quiet, bashful and sane. His studio has numerous rubber chickens hanging from the ceiling and many, many photos of Walley with rock stars and dressed to the sevens in all kinds of wacky situations that raised tens of thousands for worth while causes over the years. I first met Walley in 1992 when I and a neighbor, Ron, called ourselves Dr. Don and Dr. Ron the “Spin Doctors” doing night club shows with dance music, karaoke and comedy. A new product that came out in 92 was Comedy Karaoke. Wild Walley invited us on his morning show to do some schtick and we had an unbelievable time. In the picture above I asked Mike to smile for a great picture for the paper knowing that he would give his best 3 Stooges look-a-like pose while I tried to restrain myself from breaking up. Well, should Mike stand at an interstate off ramp using his voice to thrill media people exiting and perhaps end up on a You Tube video that might go viral causing Mr. Mike to become the new announcer for the “Price Is Right” or some professional football or basketball team? Stay tuned and don’t miss our interview on the May/June edition of 45066 that begins airing next week on Time Warner cable channel six in the Dayton south viewing area. Details follow at the end of this column.
Others on the show are the Springboro High School choir with their visit to Ireland and Scotland over Spring Break, our first state wrestling champion Cody Shivener, a visit with Tomek Ossoski, Administrator of Hillspring Transitional Care Center here in Springboro, a chat with Carlie Short, a SHS senior and country singer that will be appearing in Nashville this summer. Carlie will be singing at Cazadores in Franklin next week, one of her songs you’ll hear on the “45066” show is “73” a song she wrote about State Route 73, others on the show include Tom, Matt and Brad from Heatherwoode, Dave Thompson from the Coffman Family Y, and on the “Meet Your Neighbor” segment the mayor chats with local resident Earl Northern and his family. The May/June show was taped at the Jonathan Wright Homestead here in Springboro which was built in 1815 and is a bed and breakfast from Memorial Day weekend through October each year. A thirty minute special on the home, it’s history and the wonderful people that have come from all over the world to visit will be aired later this summer. A short interview with Sterling Gardner the home’s owner is featured in the current show. Air dates are: Thursday 5/5 at 6:30 p.m., Friday 5/6 at 10:40 p.m., Saturday 5/7 at 11:30 a.m., Sunday 5/8 at 2:30 p.m., Monday 5/9 at 1:15 p.m., Wednesday 5/11 at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday 5/12 at 3:00 p.m. The show airs 30 times during the months of May and June consultwww.mvcc.net for future air dates. Things are crazy right now! Gas is up to almost $4.00 a gallon, and is expected to continue to rise. The bottom has fallen out of the real estate market, and many of us are left to pick up the pieces, scrap and fight simply to survive. The economy is awful and it is affecting our schools, cities, homes, and lives. So what are we to do? Where is our hope?
Thursday May 5th is the National Day of Prayer, and I don’t think it could come at a better time. It has been extremely frustrating to watch this day be debated and fought about like it’s simply a small political issue, because it is not! This is a day where millions of people across the nation will take time out of their day to pause, reflect, and ask God for a little help. I am not sure it matters whether this day is observed officially or not, it is simply a day to pray.
While researching information for this article I called many churches inCarlisle , Springboro, and Franklin , and most places do not have corporate gathering on this day. Whether it be an oversight, or a political mess it doesn’t matter. We need this day, and it is something that each and every one of us can do all by ourselves. Take some time on the 5th to simply ask God to help out our families, our towns, our jobs, our nation, and our lives.
Some churches had tried to organize prayer walks which may not have worked out, still others didn’t even know when the day was and I am ok with that because it’s my job to raise awareness and spread the word. It’s the job of every individual who believes in prayer to pray ever day, but this is something we can all do together. Take time while your exercising or mowing the grass to simply talk to God, or take a walk through the heart of your town and pray for the places you see, or simply thank God for your food that day. Prayer doesn’t have to be public, private, or even difficult; it is a conversation with God. It doesn’t really matter if you know how to pray or even that feel worthy enough to pray, it’s just important that we all give it a try.
The Vineyard Community Church in Franklin will be hosting a community wide prayer service. It is my understanding that it will be led by a facilitator who will simply ask you to pray by yourself for the community, then the nation, etc. So if you need somewhere to go or simply want to check out how all of this works, then pay them a visit May 5th at noon . It will not be a “bait and switch” God service and should be pretty low key.
If you have to work or hate random strangers then that’s fine too! All I ask is that we take a few minutes and thank God for all that He has given us, and ask for help in those areas where it is needed. See, prayer is something we do that is greater than any political restrictions, policies, or ideals…its prayer, and it’s something we all need to do a little more often than we do currently.

In case you missed this in the Dayton Daily News...
By Jeff Kirby, Dayton Daily News, April 21, 2011: I met a guy last week who was looking for answers. He wanted to make sense of nonsense and wanted assurance in the wake of all uncertainty. Life is troubling for him right now.He hoped that the legal system had some answers for him. He had a couple of lawsuits he had been considering, and wanted to know my opinion.
He had a lot to say, so I listened patiently. But in the end I gently told him, no, the legal system did not have the answers he was looking for. The only winners in the cases he had in mind would be the lawyers.
He sighed, and said he suspected as much. And then he sat there with tears in his eyes. I’ve seen that look many times over the years.
Finally, he asked, “What would you do if you were me?”
I paused before answering. “We’re all different,” I said. “What works for one person doesn’t work for another.”
“Well, I’ve tried everything – buying things, running around…doing anything I please,” he said. “Those things only make matters worse.”
I learned a long time ago to recognize an open door when I see it. Years ago, a client asked me the same series of questions, and I didn’t have the courage to tell him what I really thought. A month later the police found him dead in the middle of his living room, surrounded by empty whiskey bottles.
I won’t let that happen again. So while I don’t like street preachers and judgmental religious people, I will not be bashful anymore in telling anyone why I go to church. If you ask me, that spiritual connection is the answer all people are looking for.
I said, “If I don’t get my car tuned every now and then, and if I never stop for gas, pretty soon I’m not going to get anywhere. It’s for those same reasons I need to go to church. Left to myself, I’ll steer myself in all the wrong ways. Church helps me to step outside myself and my problems and look at everything from a different perspective.”
He rubbed his eyes. “I hear what you’re saying. But I just don’t know for sure that all that stuff is real.”
I nodded in agreement. That is such a common thought. I told him that I used to say the same thing, that my lawyer-brain doesn’t allow me to accept anything until I believe there’s evidence to support it.
“So isn’t it just some hokey farce?” he asked.
I then offered a few exhibits in the “Case For Faith,” which is an excellent book by Lee Strobel.
Exhibit 1 – the calendar changed 2,000 years ago. Does that happen based on a hoax? Or does that require something that is literally Earth-shattering? Exhibit 2 – Jesus started a Christian movement in the heart of Jewish territory. That’s pretty hard to do unless there’s something very real to support it. How fast would a Michigan fan club spread if it started right in the middle of the Ohio State campus?
“There are other reasons, but one is the most important,” I said. That Exhibit would contain the names and faces of millions of people throughout time who will verify that they didn’t have a sense of peace until they made a decision to put their faith in someone other than themselves. Easter is a celebration of peace and hope.
“It works, huh?” he said.
“It works for me. And I’m not the only one who feels that way.”
He grew quiet, as if he realized there was a lot to think about.
“I didn’t expect to hear all this from a lawyer.” he said.
“I probably first heard it from a plumber. Or a mechanic. These are just our day jobs. The rest of the time, we’re all in this together,” I said.
He shook my hand and walked out the door. For a second, I wondered if I should’ve just kept my opinions to myself. Some people want to believe their happiness is tied to their success, their pride or their diversions.
Just then my phone rang. On the other end was another person in the midst of a terrible life struggle – with other questions, more concerns and a whole lot of problems – looking for answers.
We’re always looking for answers. The real question is where to look for them.
Jeff Kirby will team up with his friend since high school, Danny Griffith, to deliver the Easter message at Horizon Pointe Church (Danny is the pastor there), located at the Five-Points Elementary School, Springboro. It'll be the first time they've teamed up since they combined for 44 points in a Franklin basketball game against Monroe many years ago (Griff had 42 of those points). The service starts at 10 a.m. Dress is casual. Laughing at all the appropriate times, however, is mandatory.

Carlisle High School Boys Varsity Tennis team is ranked 8th in the area in the latest D2 rankings just released. Their two losses is two the top seed in D2, Bellbrook (1-4) and Carroll (1-4) who is ranked fourth in D1. This is really just a slap in the face to Carlisle. Oakwood has played basically the same teams. Beat Tippecanoe but that is about it. Don't get me wrong, 8th in the area is incredible. I believe they deserve at least a 5 or 6. These rankings are generated from the Miami Valley Tennis Coaches Association. When I was the Varsity Soccer coach, I remember the way these teams are ranked and the alliances that are built. I hate to see this in High School sports. Most of the time the coaches get it right. This is one of those times I believed they did Carlisle wrong. What do you think??
Area Poll:
Division II: T1. Bellbrook; T1. CJ; 3. Oakwood; 4. Lehman Catholic; 5. Kenton Ridge; T6. Tippecanoe; T6. Alter; 8. Carlisle; 9. Miami Valley; 10. Milton-Union.

Happy 400th KJV
Whether you regularly attend church or not, chances are you have heard of the King James Version of the Bible. In fact the KJV Bible translation started in, and still dwells in controversy. Regardless of all of this it is still here and in fact turns 400 on May 2nd of 2011.
Many centuries ago it was debated as to whether or not it was proper to allow the common man the capacity to read and understand Gods words. Yet, on May 2nd 1611 the Church of England published a Bible written in the common tongue. Fortunately for us it was been revised over 100,000 times to give us what we read today.
We now have many different versions and translations of the Bible, and in a way we owe them all to the work of the KJV writers. To celebrate this special anniversary KJV has partnered with YouVersion to attempt a global reading of the entire KJV in only 400 seconds. That’s right 400 seconds, to find out how they intend to accomplish the reading, or if you would like more information go to http://www.youversion.com/kjv400.
As a pastor I prefer to read several different versions of the Bible in my studies, and although I am not a KJV only guy, I am thankful for what they accomplished. Thanks to them I can now read any Bible version I want on my computer, smartphone, or ereader, or for all the old schoolers I can actually read the real thing, you know with pages and stuff.

Get your passes ready, get set, GO!! Kings Island opens this week with two massive new attractions. Since last fall, Kings Island has released the new swing like ride, Windseeker, that swings you around 301 ft in the air and at about 30mph. But another big attraction for the kids and adults alike is the "Dinosaurs Alive" exhibit. Details and videos posted below!
Visitors to Kings Island will have an opportunity to step back in time to periods between 245 million to 65 million years ago when the world's largest animatronic dinosaur park debuts May 26, 2011. More than 60 life-sized dinosaurs will be on display in Dinosaurs Alive! at Kings Island, including 56 animatronic models, in a spectacular outdoor Jurassic forest setting.
The multi-sensory and interactive dinosaur park brings inspiration, science and technology together at Kings Island where guests will also hear the sounds and see the movements of 60-plus full-sized animatronic creations made to replicate nearly every feature of the dinosaurs.
