COLUMBUS—State Representative Peter Beck (R-Mason) recently introduced House Concurrent Resolution 13, which honors and commemorates all Vietnam War-era veterans on the 55th anniversary of the first casualty of the war. Specifically, HCR 13 honors members of the United States Armed Forces who served during the Vietnam War, the Ohioans who served and those who were wounded in the war.

“I served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War era, so this legislation is of particular interest and importance to me,” said Beck. “This legislation will forever honor and remind us that many of our fellow soldiers are still prisoners of war and missing in action.”

More than 8.7 million individuals served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War era. Of these, more than 58,000 U.S. service members—and more than 3,000 Ohioans—lost their lives in the Vietnam War. Some 300,000 more U.S. service members were wounded in the war.

Additionally, approximately 600 service members were held as prisoners of war, and efforts to recover those missing in action continue today.

HCR 13 has been assigned to the House Veteran’s Affairs Committee.
