Ohio, Warren County, and the City of Carlisle could begin to feel more pressure from the economic turmoil of our nation. It is thought that a large portion of Ohioans could lose their unemployment benefits by the end of June. Dayton Daily reports that about 98,000 jobless could be affected. While WLWT.com (Channel 5) reports the number could be 83,000. Either way if cuts are made those affected could turn to the state for food stamps and other public assistance programs.
Republicans in the U.S. Senate blocked a bill last Thursday that included another extension of weekly benefits. Republicans cited that it would add $30 billion to the deficit. What does that mean?
Those in Ohio that are currently on unemployment could lose their weekly amount through their federal extensions. It also means that those that lose their job moving forward can still apply for unemployment and receive the standard 26 week compensation but will not be eligible to apply for an extension.
With many reports stating that job opportunities are not likely to improve or open up any time soon. This will become a major financial burden on families and the State of Ohio.

In studying and researching many different items in and around the city we find a wide variety of things we just did not know about Carlisle. For instance, did you know that it is illegal to have more than 3 dogs in Carlisle? CHAPTER 1272 Supplementary District Regulations states that "No person shall keep or harbor more than three
dogs
, excluding puppies less than four months old, in any single-family dwelling, or in any separate suite in a two-family dwelling or apartment dwelling, within the Municipality."
Another interesting law is in CHAPTER 618 Animals and more specifically 618.06 Coloring rabbits and baby poultry; sale or display of poultry. So those of you looking to color your rabbits and chickens this summer are prohibited from doing so. If you do feel the urge to color your pet rabbit the result could be...Whoever violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor of the fourth degree on a first offense; each subsequent offense is a misdemeanor of the third degree.
Another "Did You Know" came in the mail this past week in the City Newsletter. According to Section 660.13 of the City of Carlisle Code of Ordinances it specifically prohibits disposing grass clippings on the street. Violators could be charged with a minor misdemeanor and face possible fines. To read more of the newsletter check it out by clicking here.

As seen on the school's website, carlisleindians.org, Carlisle has released a statement about the District's Financial Update for Carlisle Local Schools in Carlisle, Ohio. Here is the statement from the school.
District Treasurer Jerry Ellender said that the District is in the best financial shape its been in for over a decade but the concern now is declining State support for the District. The State provides over half the financial support for the District and the local taxpayers provide the rest. The State reduced their funding by 1% this year and will reduce it again by 2% next year.
The District balanced its budget in FY09 with a combination of cutting expenditures and increasing revenue by opening enrollment at all buildings. But the District's expenses continue to rise with inflation while the revenues are flat to declining. This means that even though we have money right now, it will run out within the next couple of years. (See Five-Year Forecast on Treasurer page for details)
The big concern now is what will happen in the next biennium State budget when the Federal stimulus dollars run out. The current year and next school years' state budgets were propped up by Federal stimulus dollars and there will be a big hole in the State budget for the next biennium without that Federal support. This could translate into school funding cuts in the State budget which will hurt our District since we rely on the State for half our support.
The local taxpayers have been doing their part in supporting the District, but now the State is reducing their share, and this places more needs for funding the District on the local taxpayer.
Carlisle Local Schools has an annual budget of about $15 million. The revenue sources for the District are approximately $8 million is State funding, $4.8 million in property taxes, $1.7 million in income taxes and the rest is made up of student fees and miscellaneous revenue. The district operates on the minimum legal property tax level for school districts of 20 mils, and a 1% School Income Tax plus the State Foundation funding.

This past Friday, the Carlisle Local Schools Pee Wee Football program kicked off their summer mini camps for the first time ever. Never before in the past has Carlisle ran mini camps for the little ones in the summer months leading up to the football season. After finding out that it was permissible to hold off season camps, Coach Reynolds has planned a weekly session for the 1st-6th grade teams. There was an astounding 89 kids out for the first camp. Each grade level had all their coaches out to help and assist for the two hour session. The players learned fundamentals and conditioning techniques during the 2 hours. The next scheduled mini camp is this coming Sunday, June 13 at the Pee Wee Football field from 6:00-8:00pm.

This past Sunday, some Carlisle High School Seniors participated in what is an annual Baccalaureate Service provided by Hillcrest Baptist Church. For years the churches in Carlisle have taken turns holding the service to commemorate the graduating classes of Carlisle High School. The definition WIKI provides for us to better understand a Baccalaureate service. A baccalaureate service is a celebration which honors a graduating senior class from a college or high school. The event is often, but not necessarily, of a religious nature, although it is almost invariably Christian.[dubious – discuss] At many Yeshivas and other universities with religious affiliations, the baccelaureate service will be celebrated as a religious ceremony.
Hillcrest Baptist Church did a wonderful job organizing a wonderful ceremony honoring the Class of 2010 from Carlisle High School. Many of the local pastors were involved with the ceremony Hillcrest's Pastor Larry Lambes, Baptist Tabernacle Pastor Mike Gray, New Jersey Presbyterian Rev. Jeff Foster, and Youth Pastor from Riverview Baptist Church Josh Williams.
Superintendent, Mike Griffith gave a Challenge to the Family and Youth Pastor from Hillcrest Baptist Dustin Knoedler gave a Challeng to the Graduates. The night was also proclaimed by Mayor Tim Humphries as Senior/Graduate Day in the City.
Other moments of the night was High School Principal Matt Bishop and School Board Member Bryan Dunkman presented gifts to the graduates and music was provided by Worship Leader from Hillcrest Jeff Roberts. Special Music provided by Andrea Boy. Enjoy images of the ceremony of the night below.

As you wake up tomorrow morning, June 3rd, go out and pick up a Springboro Star Press or Franklin Chronicle. Why, you ask? A few months ago I met Ben Mersch, a writer for the Miller Publishing papers. He asked if we could get together and he would like to run a story (see copy below) on the network of community websites we are doing for Springboro, Franklin, & Carlisle. I thought it would be a great idea and here we are smack in the middle of the Miller papers this week.
I hope that this is a sign of moving forward. Our goal and true intentions is to provide a valid day to day one click place for residents in each city. As we begin to gain sponsorship and advertising the sky's the limit in the amount of coverage and content we can bring to "YOU" the reader. It is also the greatest local hub to talk up a topic yourself. Commenting is the best form of allowing your voice to be heard. Whether it is your opinion on the politics, school news, or the next big game in town. The site is yours! And to start we want to hear from you, the residents! Comment below in our comment section. You don't even have to leave your name. Leave an anonymous post and let us know how you feel about our efforts to provide to you the news and info in town. Heck, even if you hate it. We can always find a nugget from all criticism good or bad. So let's hear it! What do you think? Comment below or send in your comments to owner@thevoiceofmiamivalley.com
Enjoy the article that Ben published below!

Comment below or send in your comments to owner@thevoiceofmiamivalley.comEnjoy the article that Ben published below!
