Ohio, Warren County, and the City of Carlisle could begin to feel more pressure from the economic turmoil of our nation.  It is thought that a large portion of Ohioans could lose their unemployment benefits by the end of June.  Dayton Daily reports that about 98,000 jobless could be affected.  While WLWT.com (Channel 5) reports the number could be 83,000.  Either way if cuts are made those affected could turn to the state for food stamps and other public assistance programs.

Republicans in the U.S. Senate blocked a bill last Thursday that included another extension of weekly benefits.  Republicans cited that it would add $30 billion to the deficit.  What does that mean?

Those in Ohio that are currently on unemployment could lose their weekly amount through their federal extensions.  It also means that those that lose their job moving forward can still apply for unemployment and receive the standard 26 week compensation but will not be eligible to apply for an extension.

With many reports stating that job opportunities are not likely to improve or open up any time soon.  This will become a major financial burden on families and the State of Ohio.
