You Are Here: Home - Carlisle Fire Department - Sound Off, Fire Levy Debate

The poll for a potential Fire Levy has received mostly negative results. We of Carlisle Daily would like to ask your opinion. There is advantages and disadvantages to whichever side your on in this levy. Recently, there was quote by resident Scott Boschert,

"I'll make my opinion public. I am against the levy because this levy will not make the department any better than it is today and Carlisle has another option that costs no more money currently and will get full time service and they have another option to get better service than we give currently from another volunteer department for less money. Surveys did not give enough information about the options to allow citizens to give better educated decisions."
This quote was generated from the Carlisle City Survey article posted a few weeks ago. Scott discusses that we need more information so that we can make better educated decisions.
This is a hot topic in the city of Carlisle for a few reasons. We currently only have volunteer firemen. We truly commend the volunteers for their service. They have done a good job since their creation.
On the flip side, it would be nice to have full time firefighters that we know if our house is burning down they are just a short drive away and we would have the confidence that full time firefighters would be there to help save our home. Right? Or does volunteers provide that to us now? Do they? I did a Google Search on fire chief, carlisle ohio. Do you remember these stories?

Each of these stories is from newspapers across the United States. Adding these to the story is not to condemn the current status we have now. It just reveals the magnitude this small incident had on the entire nation and we say we just live in little ole Carlisle. This fire happened October 2007, and many changes have been implemented so that this will not happen again. Haven't they?
Last, getting help from other departments seems reasonable but if Franklin is on a call, do we have to wait for Hunter? Would they get there in time for an emergency in your home? How much would that cost? There would have to be some form of compensation. Wouldn't there? How quickly could they be here?
These are the type of questions I believe Scott was getting at that need to begin to be answered and even more information provided before residents of Carlisle begin to get on board with the Fire Levy.
Now its your turn, have questions? Want to voice your opinion? What do you feel should happen? This is the community sound off on the potential of Fire Levy brought to the next election!
